From my experience I think it helps to be mindful of the blog’s location (i.e USA v UK) and to use phrases accordingly for example ‘elementary school’ v ‘primary school’ or ‘trash’ v ‘rubbish’. And as you mentioned, always be respectful of the blog editor’s time!
