Besides reading through our past posts, you may also want to consider signing up for the SEO Copywriting Buzz newsletter, and receive Heather Lloyd's 25-point checklist/whitepaper on how to write for Google. Also, there are several SEO training options available for you to choose from here, under "Learn SEO Copywriting." I'm definitely partial, but I recommend the SEO Copywriting Certification training for you, especially if you want to write SEO copy for clients as well as do your own.

Hi! Just discovered your website, as I’m at the absolute beginning of my (hopeful!) career in copywriting! Question about Skill No. 1- learning how search engines work- can you recommend a post/book/website where I can start learning how they work? I have a bit of sense, as I’ve worked with an SEO consultant for my blog a bit, but I feel like there’s a lot more to learn, now that I want to do my own SEO, and write SEO copy for clients, too!

Great article! I love writing SEO copy for my clients, and I can understand how it would be impossible for someone who doesn’t really love writing to do what I do. Writing 12 or 14 articles and web pages every day would definitely lead to “burn out” quickly for someone who is not passionate about writing.

Writing in a way that speaks to your target audience and compels them to take action is essential as well.
