Hello!

Thanks for your note. You are exactly right – content writing is a collaborative effort between both parties. If one side decides to slack off or not work as hard, the entire project suffers.

My belief is that until and unless the Owner gives its 100% and corporate fully desired results cannot be Obtained . Its fine that Writer will doing hos job but its Owner who knows best about his trade , services or Business . So 100% efforts from both sides can only help attaining desired results.

Is that correct?

If so, then yes I do generally think it should be your job as the expert to do this keyword research (unless of course the client did it him/herself and has a plan!). If you find that it is too much work for you to both write and research, then by all means, hire someone else!

It’s also a good idea to always be watching different trends and gathering new data, so having two people on the project certainly wouldn’t hurt.

I hope that helps, and if you meant something a little different just let me know! I’d be happy to talk with you further, just DM me on Twitter @ADiSilvestro. Thanks for reading!

What would you recommend when clients want a full-service solution? Would you recommend contracting out the research? I love writing with keywords but am starting to hate the research itself…and am thinking maybe I should start looking for a partner to handle that part.

So many things can get confusing when it comes to freelancing, and oftentimes there is nothing in writing like there is with a full-time position. Definitely a good idea, and thanks for reading!

It’s important to get that clarity up front, and for freelance writers to draw those lines. When I first connect with a potential client, I send out a “rates and policies” doc making it clear that I don’t generally do keyword research (though I *can* do it for an additional fee). Do you do the same, Amanda?
