I especially like numbers one and two. Most people want to churn out content for Google so they rank better.

That’s true and helpful, but as we all know you rank better by writing for people first. Then, you get more SEO power from that (links/social shares).

I wish I could get more SMBs to understand that.

That paragraph you cite is working on the assumption that the client has valuable data about what kind of content style works best for their particular audience and product. Content preferences should be data-driven. If instead they offer their favorites as a mere personal preference, you should use your own analysis and expertise to deliver something that would work best for them, and guide them towards a more effective content strategy.

If you are an SEO professional, managers “like” optimized search results.

The below questions are irrelevant, unless you have success metrics to support the content choices.

“Do they like long-form articles, or pieces that are brief and to the point? Do they like lots of bolded words and bullet points, or do they prefer well-structured paragraphs? Do they appreciate fanciful wordplay and clever turns of phrase, or would they prefer the writing to be more direct and clinical?”
